Hardly any Time

I love what I am learning as a MA TESOL student but it is definitely hard work. I just have one thing to say, take a masters kiss the rest of your life good bye.

I am seriously considering not working next semester as I don’t know if I will be able to handle the pace for another semester. I am thinking about finishing the internship for the CERTESL program at U of S while doing courses at TWU next semester.

The life of a student is nuts and to make matters worse people don’t understand how an online degree is just as hard as a face to face degree. Let me clear up that myth right now. They are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saddened State

Last night I had the honour of visiting with some teachers that I taught with in Thailand. I had a great time but come out of the experience with a heavy heart.

They brought news that the program that I was a teacher in is not doing well. They talked about the politics of the new administrators and how the school that used to have a high quality of education is instead starting to backslide. They told me about how some administrators and instead were finding staff that was less than ideal. It breaks my heart, right now I want to return and up the standard and who knows maybe I will some day.

Well I guess all I can do is try to do my best in my studies and keep learning so I can make better whatever educational environment I find myself in. Maybe I might be able to return to my old school and bring back some value to their programs.

Finished Paper 1

My friend said to me once, “The best feeling in the world is relief.” I would agree with him. Relief is the best feeling in the world. I had this huge feeling of relief when I finished my first MA TESOL paper. It was a utopia to finish. So one major paper down and 6 more to go.

A Blessed Calling

Today I was very stressed out over my my first major paper of my masters program. I want to quit so bad but realize that I blessed, I have been given the  great gift of the opportunity to study. I have been trusted with the task of helping my future students in the pursuit of English as an International Language.

I  realize that the next two years will result in sacrifice but it’s worth the efforts to help my future students . My participation in a Masters program really truly is a calling. I hope I will be motivated to move forward in this pursuit.

The Ball is Rolling

I just recieved my e-mail address for Trinity Western University. I am very excited as I start this new pursuit. The book I am reading right now is called Understanding the Courses we Teach. It is an excellent book that I would recommend to anyone interested in ESl/EFL.

The book examines different ESL classes from around the world and gives you insights to a variety of ESL classrooms. In examining each class you get an idea of what others are doing and how you can use that to improve on your current teaching situation.

Culture and Teaching

I really enjoy various cultures and how they relate to teaching. I really believe that part of effective English teaching is relating to the culture that your teaching in and bring some of your own culture into the classroom.

Recently I was cruising YouTube and found a great video series on Chinese culture. The videos series are called Sexy Beijing and are put out by a lady identified as Danwei. I have included a sample video here in which she addresses the issue of Chinese people having English names. I highly recommend her videos.

Talking about culture I have included a video of my favourite Thai band called Silly Fools. I really like their music. I hope you enjoy. The is called Num Lai

I love creative students

I ran across this video a couple of days ago and just thought it has to be shared. Imagine having these guys in your class. There would never a dull moment but maybe some behavioural issues. This video inspired me to maybe have a lipsync activity with my students. I hope you enjoy this video as much as I do and think creative thoughts while watching.
