- This is a great introduction to the principles behind language learning and teaching. It is a great book for learning about second language acquisition (SLA). It a textbook in several MA TESOL programs including at Trinity Western University.

- A great introduction to the wonderful world of ELT. This book is filled with lots of awesome information about the basics of teaching English in an ESL/ EFL setting. A great beginners resource.

Murphy, John & Byrd, Patricia. (2001) Understanding the Courses We Teach: Local Perspectives on English Language Teaching. Ann Arbor, MI: The University of Michigan Press

- This book contains 18 different ESL/ EFL courses from around the world. It goes through each course and analyzes it. A great read that will definitely get you thinking about how to make your classes more effective.

- A good resource filled with lots of ideas for materials and how to maximize the materials that you already have. Available through the University of Saskatchewan bookstore.

- This book is incredible, it provides clear definitions for linguistic terms. If your going into a Masters program in TESOL you will want to purchase this book.

Waxler, Adam. (2004). eTeach: A Teacher Resource for Learning the Strategies of Master Teachers. USA: Adam Waxler (an e-book)

- This book is a e-book that is written by a social studies teacher who has some incredible ideas for the classroom. It is mainly tailored towards a social studies teacher but his ideas can be adapted to the English teacher easily.
